My avatar and me

Social media became an essential part of our lives, blurring the borders between imaginary and real lives. Most of the people I interact with in my social media accounts I haven’t met in person and probably won’t meet in this cycle of my life and, the ones I meet I’m usually surprised by the gap I see between their avatars and them.

Thinking about it most of the interactions are between avatars. Avatars are the distilled essence of what we want to show the world, so my avatar turns to be what I aspire to be, in many cases it has nothing to do with reality but the question is, what is the reality in the avatar era? in many social media encounters it seems that an avatar correspondence is the real thing when human converse there are emotions, inhibitions, culture, borders, pandemic issues, but when avatars step out to be our representatives there are only the sheer thoughts and ideas. It is like spirits and bodies, the body is limited, it needs food, sleep, air, and water whilst the spirit is free and can travel to the end of the universe just by thought. Our real identities are our bodies our avatars are our spirits, when spirits interact it is a cosmic dance without limitations and borders so I let my avatar free.

The blurring reality is part of the uncertain times we live in, an unseen virus that made all humanity on this planet halt and change habits, and who knows what awaits us in the future but in the avatar world, everything is fine.

Here is a chat I had with an avatar in an art site:
